Sworn translation for Spanish authorities
An understandable translation is not always suitable for official submission. Establish the Spanish recipient’s required format before commissioning it.
Collect the requirement
Record authority, procedure, target language and format. Ask whether attachments and reverse pages are required. This avoids a second commission for missing pages.
Check professional authorisation
Spain’s Foreign Ministry maintains an official sworn-translator directory. Verify the relevant language and authorisation. A general translation offer or native-language ability alone does not establish that status.
Coordinate originals and apostilles
Confirm the source version before translation. Assess apostille requirements separately. Later additions of official pages can leave the translated package incomplete.
Agree delivery and price
Discuss scope, deadline, typo corrections and accepted electronic or paper delivery. Confirm what the certified package includes. Distinguish an informal reading copy from the version intended for submission.
Check matching details
Compare names, dates, file references and the connection to the source. Translation cannot cure factual inconsistencies in the original. Where a foreign translator’s status is uncertain, clarify acceptance with the receiving organisation.
