How to be a successful entrepreneur with Richard Branson

How many times have you seen, heard or read advice on how to become a successful entrepreneur? The truth is, there is no magic formula that guarantees you will achieve it; but if you decide to be guided by steps or advice from someone, the most sensible thing would be for it to come from someone who has made such an achievement.

That is why we look for interviews with tycoons and businessmen where they talk about how they managed to be successful in their businesses. Results were virtually endless, but we were particularly struck by the thinking and approach that enabled Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group, to get to where he is today. That’s why we decided to share with you the attitudes and actions he advises, in order to help you on your path to success.

1. Follow your dreams

People who decide to work on what they love to do, tend to see life differently with a more positive approach and the reason is very simple, they are happier. The decision is yours, you decide to do what everyone else does or you risk following your dreams until they come true.

2. Commit yourself to your company and your clients

The difference between failure and success is largely due to the level of passionate commitment you are able to maintain to both your business idea and your personal goals. You have to feel proud of what you are doing and always think about what you can offer your clients that other companies do not offer them because they pay more attention to their profits. Be the best at what you do, the rest will come along.

3. Don’t take your employees for granted

A good leader brings out the best in his/her workers, is someone who cares about how the whole team feels, because if the team mood is affected, it can destroy both the company and its morale. Remember that your workers are in charge of representing your brand and the more motivated and valued they feel, the more they will value your business and your customers.

4. Have fun and make sure your colleagues do too

Fun is one of the primary components of becoming an entrepreneur and succeeding in business. But if your workers are also able to have fun and be committed to their jobs, they will enjoy their working hours more and perform better. Remember that if you have fun, you will have a better chance of creating a positive, rewarding and innovative atmosphere in your business.

5. Fear is no excuse for a business idea

However absurd or crazy your ideas may be to others, do not abandon them, believe in them and devise strategies to make them more and more viable and concrete. When Branson decided to set up his telephone company in South America and mainly in Mexico, many claimed it was complete madness due to the great competition, but he did not listen to them and we all know how the story ends…

6. Listen, take notes and set yourself new challenges

Write down all the ideas that cross your mind and also those that you hear from others and awaken your interest. Make lists of your goals and stick to them. Remember that one of the keys to success is based on talking less and listening more, you will be surprised at how much you can achieve by adopting this culture.

7. Don’t be ashamed of your failures, learn from them and start over

Few have the courage to admit it, but almost everyone who has managed to become great has failed at least once. The difference is in the attitude with which you face your failures, instead of being ashamed, learn from them. Take notes on all the lessons you learn from your falls and start over.

8. Delegate and spend more time with your family

Learning to delegate will make you a more successful entrepreneur and allow you to better manage your time. First you have to be able to see your strengths and weaknesses in your business and hire people who are good at what you are not. This way everyone will focus on what they like and are really good at, and will greatly enhance the business. In addition, being able to delegate those tasks will give you some free time to share with your family, which, at the end of the day, is the most important thing.

9. Do something good for humanity

The business world is for people who want to make a difference in other people’s lives, to make the world a different place, that’s a commitment you have to society, your employees, your customers and family. The best part of this is that doing good ends up being good for your business.

10. Turn off your computer and Smartphone and go out there.

Don’t just stand forever in front of your Smartphone or computer screen, get out there and enjoy all that life has to offer. Venture into new activities, get to know new cities and cultures, enrich yourself with all the good things you can find around you. Don’t forget that life is not a scheduled rehearsal and you have to appreciate every second and detail that you have in this world.
