WordPress migration: staging and launch
A staging copy should reveal issues before launch. It must also avoid generating real orders, messages or indexed duplicates.
Document scope
List files, database, uploads and additional configuration. Include forms, shop, languages, redirects and integrations. A WordPress content export is not a complete installation backup.
Isolate staging
Protect the copy from public access and unwanted indexing. Identify emails and external actions it might trigger. Use appropriate test access and avoid sending trial orders to real customers.
Change addresses safely
Domain and path changes can affect stored references and database structures. Use a WordPress-aware process. Retain a baseline backup and change log instead of blindly replacing every text occurrence.
Test functionality
Check languages, contact journeys, search, downloads and critical operations. Use a URL acceptance list. Agree which tests could have external effects and how to avoid them.
Define the final data point
An old staging database is incomplete where orders or content continue changing. Plan final synchronisation, cutover and rollback criteria. Afterwards check availability, forms, backups and indexing rules on the real live system.
