Keep the whole notice

Save every page, attachment, reference and service record. Note when and how the notice became available. Its creation date alone is not a reliable basis for calculating the response deadline.

Identify what is actually requested

Mark every required document and period. Distinguish a request for evidence from a decision carrying separate appeal rights. Make a table of requirement, available evidence, gap and responsible person. This reveals whether a return or only a supporting document is missing.

Use the specified response route

AEAT explains that the notice identifies the appropriate service, which may be general or specific to a form. Check the file reference and verification code and select the correct role as taxpayer or representative. A correct document submitted to the wrong case can be difficult to match.

Submit readable, complete evidence

Number attachments clearly and check legibility, dates and completeness. Organise explanation and supporting evidence so each request is addressed. Do not upload unrelated private records. Check the particular service's accepted formats and size limits.

Continue beyond uploading

Retain the submission acknowledgement and the files actually sent. Monitor outstanding questions and deadlines. If evidence is incomplete, establish the specific options for the deadline; silence or a saved draft does not extend it. Challenging a decision also requires the appropriate review or appeal route.
