Deutsch Empadronamiento in Spain
Empadronamiento is registration in the municipal population register at the address where a person habitually lives. It is frequently requested for residence, healthcare, schooling, social services and other procedures, but it does not create ownership or immigration status.
What municipal registration proves
Every person habitually living in a Spanish municipality should be recorded in its padrón, regardless of nationality or immigration position.
A padrón certificate proves municipal registration on a date; it does not grant residence rights, legalise a property or establish title to a dwelling.
Who can register at an address
The town hall determines acceptable occupancy evidence, which may include a deed, current lease, utility bill or authorisation from the registered owner or tenant.
If several people live at the address, the municipality may request consent, identification or a housing inspection when documentary evidence is insufficient.
